Mississauga Heavy Equipment Training School - HEO or also known as the heavy equipment operator courses will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed in order to enter the workforce as an entry level heavy equipment operator. In this twelve week course plus a practicum, you would focus on jobsite fundamentals such as: health, environmental and safety awareness and training, machine maintenance and operation, and application of earth moving methods in hands-on situations.
This training helps you to operate on selected things of machines like for example a compactor, loader, grader, excavator and a dozer. There are several essential skills needed to become a heavy equipment operator: good problem solving skills, excellent oral communication skills, physical strength and stamina, good spatial ability and good vision, the ability to work well with others in a team or alone and good manual dexterity along with good eye-hand coordination.
Some technical skills are also necessary. These are having a being able to operate equipment and power tools, general mechanical ability, understanding of safe working practices, the ability to follow technical specifications, grade plans and read directions, the ability to make mathematical calculations and basic measurements, and the ability to carry out basic maintenance and mechanical repairs.
