Mississauga Forklift License

Mississauga Forklift License

Mississauga Forklift License - In North America, obtaining forklift certification or a forklift license involves classroom and hands-on training. Regulatory control over certification, training and license for powered industrial truck operators falls under the jurisdiction of provincial, federal and state groups. Operators can obtain a license either by a third party or through training administered by the employer. Regardless, regulatory requirements have to be met. Recertification is needed every two to three years.

Lift trucks are powered industrial trucks that come along with various options, such as stand-up and sit-down. There are different sizes and types of forklift suitable for different industrial applications. Operator training programs are usually individualized to deal with the certain kinds and uses for which the operator is training. Training on a gas-powered, sit-down forklift within a warehouse setting will not be the same as training on a propane-powered, stand-up forklift within a shipyard. The different lift trucks and their uses makes it impossible to establish universal licensing requirements for all equipment and industries. Regulatory standards, therefore, tend not to focus on particular program requirements but instead on the results of individual training courses.

Employer-provided, on-the-job training is the most common way for operators to receive their forklift license or certification. This method of certification requires the employer to provide classroom sessions and practical training on equipment within the workplace. Employers can choose to train personnel on each kind of forklift separately, or to train them on all equipment combined. The curriculum incorporates forklift operation methods, safety procedures, company policies and forklift maintenance. Topics specific to the worksite, like hazardous conditions or materials, must be included. Following classroom learning, operators are taught how to safely operate and use each kind of forklift on the worksite.

Certification through a third-party vendor usually needs an on-site component along with hands-on practice.

Usually, an employer-provided certification will not transfer from the current employer to the next employer. Receiving a lift truck license through employer-provided training permits the operator to run a lift truck for that particular employer only.

Forklift safety would always be an important aspect of the lift truck license training, even though the particulars of the safety training would be dependent upon the machinery being used. Some safety issues would vary for every industry and employer. Both employer-provided training and third-party providers may have to address additional requirements for safety training in applicable industries, like for example in offshore and marine operations.
